Kingrow K1, a smartphone with e-Ink Paper display. Kingrow K1 is a new 5.17-inch HD smartphone with an e-Ink display, waiting for the Indiegogo community to fund it to enter the market. We saw it in preview in Hong Kong.
At the Global Sources Electronics Fair 2019, we met another company (this time Chinese) that seems to believe in a future with E-Ink smartphones. Kingrow, however, is still a small reality and will rely on the Indiegogo community to finance its project and put Kingrow K1 into production, which at the moment is just a "working and almost definitive" prototype but will soon become one of the few smartphones with displays and integrated paper.

Display Resolution & Features
The front is occupied by a 5.17-inch HD e-Ink display (1280 x 720 pixels, 283 PPI) with adjustable front-light, which will allow you to be productive without damaging your eyesight: the screen eliminates blue light and has no reflections, therefore it will allow a prolonged use of the device avoiding eyestrain, macular degeneration and insomnia. In short, it is a B&N monochrome display smartphone that - according to some recent studies - should improve concentration and optimize the time we spend online. In one word, it makes us more productive.
Let me clear what is eyestrain, macular degeneration, and insomnia with detailed information:
Staring at your smartphone - or tablet, e-reader or laptop, while we’re at it - for too long can lead to tired, itchy, dry eyes, and even blurred vision and headaches. Think zombie eyes and you’re there.

Processor, Ram & Storage
Kingrow K1 a smartphone + ebook reader (albeit a small format). Unlike Ebook-readers, however, Kingrow K1 is also a powerful smartphone with a 2.0GHz MediaTek Helio P23 (MT6763) octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable eMMC.
Battery & Camera
The 3100 mAh battery will guarantee excellent autonomy: up to 2 days if used as a smartphone, over 7 days in ebook-reader mode, up to 15 days in standby. There is also a front camera (which, however, they would like to eliminate on the final model) and an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and auto-focus on the back of the body, characterized by a rough finish that does not hold any imprints and makes it easier to grip.Connectivity & Sensors
Kingrow K1 does not integrate the fingerprint reader (no, it is not in-display), but has a USB Type-C port for fast charging, two speakers on the bottom and a slot for SIM cards and MicroSD on the edge.Operating System
The operating system is Android 8.1 Oreo, with support for the Play Store and the main Google applications, but Kingrow has created a customized user interface (UI) to make using the smartphone with the e-ink screen easier and more intuitive.
